Thin, round Van Gogh pastels are ideal for using their edges to work on details and the sides to cover larger areas. They work very well on supports with a surface texture that can offer grip to the pastel, such as paper, cardboard, stone, asphalt or wood. Pastel drawings and paintings are not smudge-proof, and it is recommended that a fixative be used on finished artwork. Colors are lightfast and are rated from good (25-100 years) to excellent (100+ years under museum lighting).
