In this section we offer you a complete range of products necessary for the practice of drawing with ink. India ink is an ink used mainly in Chinese and Japanese calligraphy, as well as in sumi-e (monochrome ink drawing technique of the Japanese school of painting).
It is made up of very finely ground wood charcoal, or bone from some fruits, which is compacted with some type of water-based gum, such as vegetable resins or some animal extracts. The ground charcoal and rubber are formed into small, ingot-shaped bars that are pressed and allowed to dry to a completely solid consistency. This ink, in a solid state, can last for years or centuries without losing its properties. To prepare liquid ink from these sticks, you have to rub them with a rough stone specially designed for this purpose. Currently you can also get bottles of India ink already prepared, very dense, which can be used directly or dissolved with a little water.
